The Government of Delhi has announced a series of major measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and promoting energy-saving practices across the national capital. Under the new policy, government offices in Delhi will follow a mandatory two-day work-from-home system every week, while efforts will also be made to conduct at least 50 percent of official meetings virtually. The decisions were announced following a cabinet meeting led by Rekha Gupta. Officials said the move is part of a broader campaign inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and responsible resource usage across the country. Apart from work-from-home arrangements, the Delhi government has also decided not to purchase any new official vehicles for the next one year. Authorities will additionally focus on reducing petrol and diesel expenses incurred by government departments and officials. Measures like carpooling, minimizing ministerial convoy sizes, and promoting virtual communication have also been included in the action plan. The Delhi government is expected to run a special three-month campaign to monitor and encourage fuel-saving practices in both public and private sectors. Large private companies and institutions are also likely to be advised to implement hybrid work policies to reduce traffic congestion and fuel consumption. Officials stated that the Labour Department and senior administrative officers will coordinate with organizations to ensure smooth implementation of the guidelines. The initiative is being viewed as one of the biggest administrative shifts toward hybrid governance and energy conservation in the capital. The announcement has sparked widespread discussion on workplace reforms, environmental sustainability, and long-term urban management strategies in Delhi.
