A shocking escalation of post-election violence has been reported from West Bengal, where the brother of newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Piyush Kanodia has allegedly been killed in New Town Kolkata. The incident has further intensified the already volatile situation in the state following the election results. According to initial reports, the victim was attacked in the New Town area, leading to his death shortly after the incident. The news has sparked political outrage, with leaders from both the BJP and the All India Trinamool Congress exchanging sharp accusations over the rising violence across the state. Piyush Kanodia, reacting to the tragedy, expressed deep shock and anger, stating that he had assumed office only hours earlier when the incident occurred. He urged police authorities to take immediate and strict action against those responsible and called for peace in his constituency. He also appealed to supporters to maintain calm and avoid further escalation. The incident is part of a broader pattern of post-poll clashes being reported from multiple districts of West Bengal, including reports of vandalism, political confrontations, and targeted attacks. Areas such as Birbhum, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Paschim Bardhaman have also witnessed incidents of violence and unrest. The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, has already issued strict directives to maintain law and order, instructing immediate action against those involved in instigating violence. Security forces remain on high alert as investigations continue into the latest killing and other related incidents across the state.
