Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made a major statement regarding alleged illegal infiltration in West Bengal, claiming that people who entered the state illegally are now “returning on their own.” Speaking at an event in Ahmedabad, Shah said that earlier, under the rule of Mamata Banerjee, infiltration across the border allegedly took place regularly, but the situation has now changed under the BJP-led administration headed by Suvendu Adhikari. According to Shah, detention centers have been established in Bengal and the government wants illegal infiltrators to voluntarily return to the country they came from before any identification drive begins. He added that if such individuals leave voluntarily, the Bengal government would not file legal cases against them and would even assist them in the process. The statement comes amid viral videos and reports circulating on social media claiming that some individuals who allegedly crossed over from Bangladesh had received documents and government benefits in India. Shah’s remarks have intensified the political debate around border security, citizenship verification, and illegal migration in West Bengal. Meanwhile, visuals from border regions reportedly show crowds gathering near crossing points, with claims of people returning to Bangladesh voluntarily. The issue is expected to trigger a fresh political confrontation between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress ahead of upcoming political campaigns in the state.
