Political activity in West Bengal has intensified as Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata for a crucial day of meetings related to government formation following the BJP’s electoral performance in the state. Amit Shah began his visit with prayers at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, a symbolic gesture often associated with seeking blessings before major political developments. After the temple visit, he is expected to proceed toward internal party discussions and the key legislative party meeting scheduled later in the day. At around 4:00 PM, the BJP will hold its legislative party meeting where all newly elected MLAs will vote to choose their leader. That leader is expected to be projected as the Chief Ministerial face for West Bengal. The announcement is likely to be made after the formal meeting process concludes. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari remains one of the prominent names being discussed within party circles. However, the final decision will depend on the collective choice of MLAs and approval by the central leadership during the meeting process. Party sources also indicate that after the legislative party meeting, a delegation may visit the Raj Bhavan to formally stake claim to form the government. The oath-taking ceremony is expected to follow after the completion of constitutional procedures. While political interpretations of meetings and interactions continue, the official announcement of the Chief Ministerial candidate will only come after the formal BJP legislative party decision.
