A major political controversy has intensified as Assam Police reached the Delhi residence of Pawan Khera to question him over serious allegations made against the wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma. The development comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of upcoming elections in Assam. Khera had earlier claimed during a press conference that Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, possessed multiple foreign passports, including from Muslim-majority nations, and questioned whether she held dual citizenship, which is not permitted under Indian law. These allegations triggered a strong response from the Chief Minister and his family, who dismissed the claims as false and fabricated. Following this, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma filed an FIR with the Assam Crime Branch, accusing Khera of spreading misinformation using allegedly AI-generated and manipulated documents. Acting on the complaint, a team of Assam Police, supported by Delhi Police, arrived at Khera’s residence in Nizamuddin East to record his statement. Initial reports suggest that Khera was not present at his residence at the time of the visit, and it remains unclear whether any legal notice or warrant has been issued. Officials indicate that the current step is part of routine investigation procedures following the FIR. The incident has further escalated the political war between the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, adding fuel to an already heated electoral atmosphere.
