‘You’re an anchor baby’: Indian-American influencer Priya Patel faces backlash over ‘America for Americans’ demand

'You’re an anchor baby': Indian-American influencer Priya Patel faces backlash over 'America for Americans' demand

Donald Trump’s H-1B policies might be doing well in his eyes, but for the employees and employers, it has created an environment of insecurity, hopelessness and division. In September 2025, the Trump administration hiked the H-1B visa fees from US$5,000 to US$100,000. Later, it was announced that starting on December 15, 2025, the US State Department would be conducting an “online presence review” of applicants and their dependents, demanding that their social media account settings be turned to “public.”In this situation, numerous employers have withdrawn H-1B visa support from workers leaving them in a hurry to find a new job to prevent deportation. Additionally, the policies have created a huge divide between American natives and H-1B workers, with the battleground being social media.

Recently, Priya Patel an Indian-American influencer has been receiving viral backlash for her controversial statement on X, demanding an “American for Americans.”

Priya Patel’s viral post

Priya Patel is an Indian-American MAGA influencer with a following of 29.1K on X (Formerly Twitter). Patel is known for her staunch pro-MAGA stance among Americans and her recent post on the app has gained her some furious backlash. On December 23rd, 2025 Patel took to X to share a post writing, “All I want is an America for Americans… Is that too much to ask?” Her post received 442.6K views and about 1.4K comments.

Netizens react to Patel’s post

Patel’s post irked numerous X users who took to the comments section to point out that she herself was a Patel and an Indian-American. Many called her a hypocrite and suggested that she should self-deport herself if she really wants an “America for Americans.”“Who decides who is an American? A Patel?” questioned an X user. “Priya, you’re a Patel. By your own standard, how are you American? Last I checked, every Indian in the U.S. got here through immigration. Is that too much to ask you to understand?” added 4X founder James Blunt.“You are getting deported back to India after Christmas. Holidays are over sweetie. No more excuses,” stated another user.“Reviewing the responses to your tweet here, I don’t think the party you’ve chosen to align with appreciates your contributions to their political movement tbh,” one pointed out. “Well, I understand that, what I don’t understand why no-white people like you think that racist punks like MAGA will accept you as an equal? Are you really that dumb?” questioned another.

Priya Patel’s controversial MAGA history

The controversial post isn’t the first by the influencer. Previously, she has received flak for asserting that certain cultures should be prohibited from entering the US.“Not all cultures are equal. There, I said it. Guess what? All people are created equal under the eyes of God and the law, but not all cultures are equal. This is a simple fact,” said Patel in a video she posted on her social media. She argued that extensive immigration enabled the formation of insular communities that fail to merge with American societies, altering the cities in the process. She has even stated that third-world nations continue to engage in practices such as slavery, child marriage, polygamy and human sacrifices and can not be considered equivalent to those allowed entry in the US. While Patel’s citizenship status remains unknown, many assume she is aligning herself with the MAGA perspective on immigration to save herself and the social media posts are a testament to her lens and effort.
