Thai princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol is in hospital since 2022.

The Thailand royal family issued the first update about Thai princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol’s health condition in the last three years since she has been in hospital in 2022. And the update is not good news. Princess Bha is suffering from severe blood infection, the update said. “The doctors have reported that the Princess’s lungs and kidneys have been functioning with support from medical devices and medication,” the Bureau of the Royal Household said in the statement. “From August 9, 2025, the medical team detected a severe infection in the bloodstream, leading them to administer antibiotics and medication to stimulate blood pressure in order to maintain stable levels.”Doctors will continue to monitor her condition and provide treatment, the statement said.

What happened to 46-year-old Princess Bha?

Princess Bha fell ill with a heart condition in December 2022 during a military dog training session at Nakhon Ratchasima, north of the capital, Bangkok. Since then, she has been unconscious. The 46-year-old princess is the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn and the only child from his first marriage. She held a number of positions in Thailand and also with the United Nations. Educated in Britain, the US and Thailand, she was appointed to a senior role in his bodyguard command a year before her hospitalisation.Princess Bha has served as Thailand’s Ambassador to Austria, Slovakia, and Slovenia (2012–2014). Additionally, she has a background as an attorney and held roles in the Royal Thai Army and Royal Security Command, reaching the rank of General.As the first grandchild of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and Queen Sirikit, she occupies a prominent position in the Thai royal family. Though not officially named heir, Princess “Bha” is regarded by many as a viable contender for the throne given her accomplishments and royal stature.
