Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has openly said that Twitch “failed” after streamer Emiru was assaulted during a Meet and Greet at TwitchCon last weekend. A man crossed barriers, grabbed her face and tried to kiss her. The video went viral online. Emiru said Twitch staff did not stop him and did not even ask if she was okay right after the incident. Dan Clancy said he takes full responsibility and admitted that Twitch “mismanaged” its response and communication after the assault.

What did Dan Clancy say after the Emiru incident

Dan Clancy said he wants to be very clear and take full accountability. He said Twitch failed in both allowing the assault to happen and in responding slowly after it. He accepted that their first public statement was not accurate. He said, “We mismanaged our communication, and that includes my own comments.” Emiru said Twitch’s first statement was false. She said Twitch claimed that the man was “immediately caught and detained”, but that was “a lie”. She explained that the man walked away freely and was not stopped at the moment of the attack. She only heard that he was caught hours later, and she believes that only happened after her manager pushed for action. Emiru confirmed she is pressing charges.Dan Clancy said Twitch is now fully reviewing how Meet and Greets are handled. He said they are checking everything, the sign-up system, layout, and stronger security at the venue. He also confirmed they are doing a bigger review of overall event safety and will update TwitchCon rules for future events to protect all streamers and fans.

Emiru says she was left unprotected and hopes Twitch improves safety for creators

Emiru said she was hurt not only by the physical assault but also by how slow Twitch was to react. She said no Twitch staff came to her to ask if she was okay right after the incident.
