The UAE has achieved a historic milestone in its aviation and defence sector with the launch of the Badr-250 (B-250) light attack aircraft, the first fully designed and manufactured by Emirati talent. Unveiled at the Dubai Airshow 2025, the aircraft showcases advanced technologies, multi-role capabilities, and world-class performance, highlighting the UAE’s growing leadership in the region’s aviation industry.

Historic launch at Dubai Airshow

Calidus Holding Group, a leading defence and manufacturing company, revealed the B-250 light attack aircraft at Dubai World Central during the Dubai Airshow, which runs until November 21. This marks the UAE’s first fully indigenous light attack aircraft, developed entirely by Emirati expertise. The launch follows the aircraft’s successful maiden flight and completion of rigorous qualification and core testing programs. Dr. Khalifa Murad Alblooshi, Managing Director and CEO of Calidus Holding Group, said:“We are proud to launch the first light attack aircraft developed entirely by Calidus, fully designed, manufactured and produced in the Emirates by Emirati talent. The B-250 is the first of its kind in the UAE and the region — an achievement that embodies our leadership in designing, producing, and delivering advanced aviation systems to global standards.” Alblooshi noted that this milestone aligns with the UAE leadership’s vision to strengthen the national defence industry and position the country as a global hub for advanced aviation.

Advanced design and multi role capabilities

The B-250 is engineered as a multi-role platform suitable for combat, reconnaissance, and training missions, including:

  • Combat operations: Close air support (CAS) and counterinsurgency (COIN)
  • Intelligence and surveillance: ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance), persistent air support (PAS)
  • Pilot training: Basic and advanced training

The aircraft features a carbon fibre structure, reducing weight while maintaining high strength. Key systems include:

  • Next-generation avionics, mission, communication, and self-protection systems
  • Seven external stores for weapons and equipment
  • EO/IR gimbal for precision targeting

Performance and technical specifications

The B-250 is powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6A-68 engine producing 1,600 SHP. Its performance figures are:

  • Maximum horizontal speed: 301 knots
  • Endurance: Up to 12 hours
  • Maximum range: Up to 2,400 nautical miles (depending on configuration)
  • Maximum ceiling: 30,000 feet

The aircraft supports an external payload of up to 1,800 kg across seven stores and features a pressurized cockpit with OBOGS.

Weapons systems and operational readiness

The B-250 can carry a wide range of armaments, including:

  • Smart missiles
  • Laser-guided bombs
  • Conventional weapons and ammunition

It is designed for rapid rearming after landing, even on rugged airbases, ensuring high operational readiness and flexibility in diverse combat scenarios.

Calidus’ broader aviation portfolio

In addition to the B-250, Calidus produces advanced aviation platforms such as:

  • B-250T: Trainer aircraft
  • WX-80: Cloud-seeding and weather research aircraft

These programs demonstrate the UAE’s growing capability to develop sophisticated, multi-role aviation systems that meet both national defence requirements and global standards Go to Source
