A new warning comes from the State Department for visa holders about reckless driving.
The Department of State cited a few recent cases of reckless driving by foreigners in the US that resulted in the revocation of visas and said the Donald Trump administration is not giving second chances to those who put the lives of Americans in danger. The department made a series of X posts where it became clear that they are not waiting for conviction and are canceling visas and imposing further bans on them.”The Trump Administration is keeping reckless foreign drivers off our streets by revoking visas and denying further travel to the United States,” it said. “The State Department is keeping our streets safe from foreign nationals who drive impaired, disregard laws, and endanger Americans.”
Case studies of visa revocation for reckless driving
The department revealed a few cases without the identities of the individuals involved.
- One foreign national was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest with violence, drunk driving, and domestic violence. Outrageous and dangerous behavior that endangers American communities will never be tolerated. Visa revoked.
- A foreign national was arrested for aggravated DUI with a blood alcohol level nearly double the legal limit and a minor in the vehicle. Reckless behavior that puts a child’s life at risk on America’s roads is unacceptable, it said.
- Another foreign national was arrested for DUI with a blood alcohol level more than 3x the legal limit. The driver then showed up drunk to a court-mandated DUI program. “No more second chances for foreign visitors who put American lives at risk. Visa revoked,” it said.
- A foreign national was arrested for DUI and causing injury to another person.
- One foreign national was arrested for driving with heroin and a blood alcohol level more than 3x the legal limit. “Flagrant abuse of America’s hospitality won’t be tolerated,” it said.
“Under President Trump, the State Department will continue to revoke the visas of foreigners who endanger our citizens and will always put the safety of Americans first,” the department said.Immigration attorney Emily Neumann said it’s interesting as none of the examples provided by the department said that these accused individuals were “convicted”. “An arrest is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. Due process should not disappear just because the accused is a foreign national,” Neumann said.
