US President Donald Trump has proposed a $1.5 trillion defence budget for 2027, the largest in decades, underscoring a sharp focus on military spending amid the ongoing US-led war against Iran. We can’t take care of day care,” Trump said at a private White House event. “It’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things,” he added, suggesting such responsibilities be handled at the state level.

Beyond defence, the budget outlines several targeted allocations:
- Maintaining funding for immigration enforcement and deportation operations, including expanded detention capacity
- A 13% increase for the department of justice, focused on tackling violent crime
- $481 million to boost aviation safety and hire more air traffic controllers
- A $10 billion fund for national park service projects in Washington, DC
The plan also eliminates refugee resettlement assistance programmes while continuing funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
