Sharjah has appointed Mohammed Obaid Al Hosan Al Shamsi as Secretary-General of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC) through an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The appointment, alongside the council’s leadership structure, underscores the emirate’s focus on strengthening its sports sector, developing talent, and enhancing opportunities for athletes at all levels.

Formation of the Sharjah Sports Council

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi issued an Emiri Decree officially establishing the Sharjah Sports Council. The council is tasked with overseeing the development of sports in the emirate, implementing programs to support athletes, promoting community participation, and organizing sporting events locally, regionally, and internationally.The formation of SSC represents Sharjah’s commitment to building a sustainable and innovative sports ecosystem, ensuring that governance, planning, and execution are structured and efficient.

Leadership structure

The Decree names Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi as Chairman of SSC, providing strategic leadership for the council’s initiatives.Eight additional members have been appointed to form the council’s governing body:

  1. Dr Abdullah Abdulrahman Yousef bin Sultan
  2. Adel Saleh Yousef Al Hammadi
  3. Abdullah Sultan Al Dah Al Matroushi
  4. Abdullah Mohammed Al Malih Al Fazari
  5. Omar Hassan Ali bin Hanifa
  6. Dr Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Yasi
  7. Dr Saif Ahmed Saif Khalaf Al Zaabi
  8. Hanan Mohammed Al Mahmoud

This diverse membership brings expertise from multiple sectors, enabling the council to implement effective sports programs and policies.

Secretary General appointment

The Emiri Decree also promotes Mohammed Obaid Al Hosan Al Shamsi, previously Director of the Sports Affairs and Development Department at SSC, to the rank of Director-General under the special job system of the Government of Sharjah. He has been appointed as Secretary-General of the Sharjah Sports Council, tasked with overseeing the council’s operations and driving its strategic objectives.This appointment ensures strong administrative leadership and continuity in managing initiatives such as talent development programs, sports infrastructure projects, and the organization of events.
