In a proactive move focused on driver safety, AGMC, the official distributor of Geely vehicles in the UAE, has announced a voluntary recall for over 5,500 Geely Emgrand sedans. Working in coordination with the Ministry of Economy, the distributor is reaching out to owners to address a technical concern involving the fuel system. If you own one of these popular sedans, here is everything you need to know about why this is happening and how you can get your car serviced for free.

Why are Geely being recalled in the UAE?

AGMC, the official UAE distributor for Geely vehicles, has announced a major safety recall affecting 5,584 Geely Emgrand sedans across the Emirates. This recall follows information from Geely’s global headquarters in Hangzhou, China, which identified a defect in the fuel system of certain Emgrand models. According to the recall notice, the issue centers on a non-vented fuel filler cap that may lead to vacuum pressure building up inside the fuel system over extended driving periods. In extreme cases, this trapped pressure can deform the fuel tank and cause it to press against the fuel pump components, potentially creating a fuel leak hazard. The affected vehicles were manufactured between August 3, 2023, and July 4, 2024, meaning nearly a year’s worth of production has been flagged for inspection and repair.

What does this mean for vehicle owners?

AGMC has assured customers that all necessary work will be carried out free of charge. The service process includes:

  • Replacing the fuel filler cap with a properly vented one.
  • Cleaning the carbon canister, which is part of the emissions and vapour handling system.
  • Inspecting related components and replacing any additional defective parts if needed.

Owners whose cars fall under the recall are urged to contact AGMC service centers to schedule their vehicles for corrective service. Prasanth Karthikeyan, Head of Aftersales for Geely Brands at AGMC, emphasized that customer safety and confidence are top priorities. He stated that trained technicians will work quickly to ensure affected owners can continue to drive safely.

How to get it fixed?

Affected owners should do the following:

  • Check eligibility: Confirm that the vehicle’s production date (between August 2023 and July 2024) places it within the recall scope.
  • Contact AGMC: Book an appointment via AGMC service centres, customers can arrange inspections and repairs by calling or emailing AGMC as per the recall advisory.
  • Free servicing: The fuel cap replacement, carbon canister cleaning, full inspection, and any necessary part swaps are all provided at no cost to owners.

AGMC’s service teams are prepared to handle all affected cars efficiently and safely, keeping customer satisfaction and safety at the forefront of the recall actionTo ensure your car is safe, you can reach out to AGMC via the following channels, quoting the reference number MOE-CPCC-CPR-0000083-20251031: This proactive maintenance prevents a minor pressure issue from turning into a major mechanical headache down the road. Since the entire service is free, fast, and thorough, there is every reason to book your slot. After all, a quick visit to the service center today ensures thousands of miles of worry-free driving tomorrow.Stay safe, keep your fuel system “breathing” easy, and enjoy the smooth UAE roads with total peace of mind.
