Graduating from university in the UAE just got a lot more seamless. In a major move to slice through red tape, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) has officially activated an automatic recognition system for degrees from 34 selected universities. This initiative is a centerpiece of the nation’s “Zero Government Bureaucracy” program, aimed at making life easier for residents. For the first time, tens of thousands of students can transition from their final exams to their first job without the headache of manual verification. Since its launch, the program has already processed over 25,000 graduates, proving that the future of UAE education is digital, fast, and entirely paperless.

How does the Automatic Recognition System work?

Under this new system:

  • Graduates from participating universities get immediate recognition of their degrees without separate applications.
  • Recognition is linked to official databases and confirmed through an approved QR‑code system, eliminating physical document submissions.
  • The initiative supports simplified employment, residency, visa applications, and postgraduate admissions.
  • More than 25,000 graduates have already used the system since its launch.

MoHESR says that the digital tools for verification help ensure data reliability and make it easier for both graduates and authorities to confirm recognised qualifications quickly. The system also supports recognition of qualifications obtained outside the UAE, offering electronic verification and digital reports that help relevant authorities verify foreign degrees.

Which Universities are included?

The first phase of this rollout covers a comprehensive mix of federal, public, and high-profile private institutions across the Emirates. If you graduate from one of these institutions, your degree is essentially “born recognized” in the eyes of the government.

Institution Category Name of University / College
Federal & Public United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Khalifa University, Rabdan Academy, Abu Dhabi Polytechnic, Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Fatima College of Health Sciences.
Private & International (A-M) American University of Sharjah (AUS), University of Sharjah, Abu Dhabi University, American University in Dubai (AUD), Ajman University, Al Ain University, Amity University Dubai, British University in Dubai, Canadian University Dubai, Dubai Medical College for Girls, Gulf Medical University.
Private & International (N-Z) Heriot-Watt University Dubai, University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Middlesex University Dubai, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Dubai, University of Birmingham Dubai, University of Dubai, University of Saint Joseph Dubai, Liwa College, Skyline University College, Westford University College, City University Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University.

The most significant impact for graduates is the end of the dreaded “equivalency letter”. In the past, students had to submit physical documents and wait weeks for the Ministry to verify their qualifications for job applications, residency requirements, or visa updates. Now, the Ministry’s backend is digitally linked directly to these 34 universities. The moment a degree is conferred, a digital recognition record is generated. Graduates can verify their credentials through an approved QR code that serves as official confirmation for any government or private entity. This streamlined process ensures that if you’re applying for a UAE Golden Visa or a high-level government position, your academic standing is confirmed in seconds rather than months. This isn’t just a technical update; it’s a strategic economic move. By removing the wait time for degree recognition, the UAE is ensuring that fresh talent enters the workforce the moment they are ready. The Ministry has also announced that the next phase will expand to include Emirati students studying abroad on government scholarships.
