The move highlights the airline’s commitment to embedding safety at the core of its operations and joining a global network of over 150 airlines dedicated to excellence in aviation safety.

Strengthening safety culture through leadership

Dubai-based carrier flydubai formalised its commitment to safety when Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith signed the IATA Safety Leadership Charter. The charter is a global initiative developed collaboratively with aviation stakeholders to promote safety through visible leadership engagement. By signing, flydubai underscores its focus on cultivating trust, accountability, and safety awareness throughout every level of the organisation.Ghaith Al Ghaith commented on the milestone, emphasising the airline’s dedication: “We are pleased to sign the IATA Safety Leadership Charter, re-emphasising our commitment to the highest standards of aviation safety. By embedding the Charter’s guiding principles into our daily operations and sharing our experiences, insights and best practices, we aim to further contribute towards a stronger and safer global aviation industry. Fostering a safety-first culture remains a high priority at flydubai, and we look forward to working with our industry partners to maintain safety throughout our entire operations.”

Principles guiding Flydubai’s safety commitment

The IATA Safety Leadership Charter provides a framework for airlines to strengthen safety outcomes through leadership actions and organisational practices. Its key principles include:

  • Leading a collective commitment to safety through both words and actions.
  • Promoting safety awareness across all departments and employees.
  • Continuously assessing and improving the airline’s safety culture.

By adhering to these principles, flydubai aims to enhance its existing Safety Management System, ensuring that all operational decisions prioritise the wellbeing of passengers, employees, and stakeholders alike.

Leadership at the heart of safety

Khalid Alhumaidan, Senior Vice President of Compliance, Safety & Sustainability at flydubai, highlighted the significance of leadership in shaping safety outcomes: “Joining the IATA Safety Leadership Charter marks an important milestone in flydubai’s journey to continuously strengthen our safety culture. Leadership plays a vital role in shaping safety outcomes, and through this Charter, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting trust, accountability and transparency at every level of the organisation. It reflects our ongoing efforts to enhance our Safety Management System and ensure that every decision we make prioritises the wellbeing of our passengers, workforce and stakeholders.”This initiative positions flydubai among a growing community of more than 150 global airlines actively working to elevate industry-wide safety standards. It reflects a proactive approach to not only maintain regulatory compliance but also foster a culture where safety is embedded in everyday operational decisions.
