In a major move to advance health, education, and social development worldwide, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has unveiled a permanent endowment district valued at Dh4.7 billion. The initiative, launched under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, aims to channel its proceeds into humanitarian projects around the globe.

A vision for global impact

Sheikh Mohammed announced the launch on his X account, describing it as a “perpetual charitable endowment whose proceeds will go towards supporting health and education projects worldwide.” He emphasized the project’s long-term vision, noting that it aims to provide both immediate benefits and sustained impact through continuous charitable funding.

Comprehensive facilities for community and learning

The endowment district is set to be a self-sustained hub, featuring a variety of facilities to serve residents, students, and patients:

  • Hospital: With the capacity to treat 90,000 patients annually, offering advanced medical care.
  • Medical University: Providing education and training for future healthcare professionals.
  • Schools: Accommodating more than 5,000 students, ensuring access to quality education.
  • Residential Buildings: Housing 2,000 families within the district.
  • Boulevard and Retail Outlets: Featuring endowment-owned shops to generate sustainable revenue for charitable initiatives.

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that every aspect of the district is designed to contribute to the continuity of giving, combining infrastructure development with philanthropy.

Acknowledging supporters and philanthropic partners

In his announcement, Sheikh Mohammed expressed gratitude to donors and supporters who made the project possible, with special recognition for Azizi Developments and other contributors. He noted, “We extend our appreciation to everyone who strives to do good and works to sustain goodness in the nation of generosity and giving.”

Context and related initiatives

The launch of the endowment district follows Sheikh Mohammed’s introduction of the Volunteering and Community Engagement Ecosystem, aimed at strengthening the impact of volunteer work and enhancing the operations of nonprofit organisations. This move aligns with broader goals of sustainable development, ensuring that charitable efforts are coordinated and impactful.By combining education, healthcare, housing, and commercial infrastructure under a single endowment, Sheikh Mohammed’s initiative reflects a long-term vision for socially responsible development that benefits communities both locally and internationally.
