Indian man in Michigan, convicted of sexual abuse of children, arrested by ICE; student visa was revoked in 2024

An Indian-origin man, convicted of child sex abuse in Michigan, has been arrested by ICE,

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of Indian man Nava Kunal Tupili who was earlier convicted of sexual abuse of minors. “Nava Kumar Tupili, a criminal illegal alien from India, convicted for accosting children for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime in Wayland, Michigan,” the Department of Homeland Security said. ICE said there was already an ICE detainer on the man as he was residing in the US illegally. Tupili entered the US on a student visa which was revoked in 2024, ICE said adding that the county jail honored the ICE detainer and turned the man to ICE instead of releasing him.Last weekend, ICE arrested criminal illegal aliens across the country convicted for despicable crimes including sexual assault of a child, human trafficking for sexual servitude, sexual solicitation of a minor, rape, kidnapping, and other appalling crimes, the department said. “Over the weekend, the heroic men and women of ICE arrested criminal illegal aliens convicted for some of the worst crimes imaginable, including sex trafficking, child rape, and kidnapping,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “ICE law enforcement never takes a day off—even on the weekends—from removing criminal illegal aliens from American communities. If you see an ICE law enforcement officer, thank them for removing these heinous criminals from our country.”The arrests include:

  • Miguel Lopez-Jimenz, from Mexico
  • Charles Amofa, from Ghana
  • Nava Kumar Tupili, from India
  • Oluwasegun Faruk Sanni, from Nigeria
  • Walter Perez-Avila, from Guatemala

  • Jose Zuniga-Escalante, from Mexico
  • Daniel Jesus Piedra-Fernandez, from Colombia
  • Dave Casagrande-Zambrano, from Ecuador

  • Samir Alejandro Flores-De Leon, from Venezuela

All of them were convicted in different states and all of them were living in the country illegally, ICE said.
