The UFC’s unprecedented White House event moved another step closer on Wednesday after Donald Trump unveiled a custom-made championship belt designed specifically for the card while hosting four UFC stars inside the Oval Office. Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane all travelled to Washington as preparations continue for the June 14 “UFC Freedom 250” event, which is being staged as part of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations connected to Independence Day. The special event-exclusive belt sat at the centre of Trump’s desk during the meeting, featuring heavy American flag imagery and branding tied directly to the White House show. Trump also revealed renderings of the transformed South Lawn setup planned for the event, showing an octagon cage positioned directly outside the White House with a large temporary arena structure surrounding it.

Trump calls UFC White House card “the greatest show on Earth”

Speaking to reporters while standing alongside the fighters, Trump attempted to build excitement around what is expected to become one of the most unusual combat sports events ever staged. “I’m a big sports fan,” Trump said. “There are no people tougher in sports than the people behind me. These are the toughest people. “June 14, we’re having a big fight. It’s never going to happen again; it’s never happened before. It’s all of the best fighters, the best four fighters standing behind me, all four champions, and it’s going to happen right in front of the White House. “This will be the greatest show on Earth.” Trump later held up multiple renderings inside the Oval Office showing different views of the planned venue, including overhead images of the octagon structure built directly onto the South Lawn area. According to plans discussed by Trump, the setup will include an approximately 5,000-seat arena immediately surrounding the cage, while an additional 75,000 to 100,000 spectators are expected to gather around the Ellipse outside the White House grounds where the fights will be shown on large screens free of charge. Construction on the temporary structure is expected to begin shortly. Trump also confirmed that he met UFC CEO Dana White on May 5 to discuss final planning for the event.

Topuria vs Gaethje headlines White House card

The event’s main fight is expected to feature lightweight champion Ilia Topuria defending his title against interim champion Justin Gaethje. Both fighters reportedly faced off outside on the White House lawn during Wednesday’s media appearance. Gaethje used the opportunity to praise Trump’s long-standing support for the UFC before the sport became globally mainstream. “It’s truly an honor and a privilege,” Gaethje told Trump. “It’s awesome it’s your birthday. It’s awesome it’s Flag Day. It’s wonderful to represent this country.” The June 14 date carries multiple layers of symbolism because it falls on both Flag Day and Trump’s 80th birthday, while also forming part of the broader celebrations connected to America’s 250th anniversary.

Pereira attempts three-division UFC history

The second major fight attached to the card will see former middleweight and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira face heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane. Pereira and Gane also squared off for the first time on the White House lawn during Wednesday’s promotional appearance. For Pereira, the bout carries additional historical significance because he is attempting to become the first fighter in UFC history to win titles across three different weight divisions. The White House card is currently expected to feature seven fights in total.

UFC and Trump’s long relationship with combat sports

Trump’s association with combat sports stretches back decades. During the 1980s and 1990s, he regularly hosted major boxing events at his casinos and sat ringside for several of Mike Tyson’s biggest fights. He has also remained a regular attendee at UFC events in recent years, including the promotion’s Miami card in April. His connection to wrestling is similarly extensive. Trump Plaza hosted consecutive WrestleMania events in 1998 and 1999, becoming the first venue ever to stage back-to-back editions of WWE’s biggest annual show, while Trump himself also made multiple on-screen appearances during those events. The UFC White House show now appears set to become the latest crossover point between combat sports, politics and entertainment as preparations continue ahead of June 14. Go to Source
