'Supriya dreamed of becoming nurse’: Indian-origin man Vikrant Thakur admits killing wife in Australia court, pleads not guilty to murder

Indian-origin Vikrant Thakur, who was charged with the murder of his wife, Supriya Thakur, confessed that he killed her in Australia’s Adelaide Magistrates Court. Supriya, 36, was found dead at a residence in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, Australia, on December 21 after authorities responded to reports of a domestic assault.Vikrant was reportedly apprehended at the scene and was charged with murder. The 41-year-old Indian appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on December 22 but did not seek bail.He appeared in court virtually while still in custody for the murder charge, and admitted to taking his wife’s life, but entered a plea of guilty to manslaughter and not guilty to murder, according to ABC News.”I plead for manslaughter, but not guilty for murder,” Vikrant told the court. He reportedly made this admission following the advice of his lawyer, James Marcus on January 14.Ahead of his confession, prosecutors had requested that the court adjourn the matter for 16 weeks, reportedly citing pending evidence, including a post-mortem report and DNA results. With this admission by Vikrant this week, the case will next return to court in April. An anonymously set up fundraiser by Supriya’s friends and community members on GoFundMe collected over $11,641 in donations for her son.According to the GoFundMe page, Supriya worked long hours and aspired to become a registered nurse, fuelled by her desire to help people and make a better future for her son.
