Rs 28 LPA in Bengaluru or $60K per year in US: Indian student on F-1 visa asks which one is wiser to choose

Rs 28 LPA in Bengaluru or $60K per year in US: Indian student on F-1 visa asks which one is wiser to choose

A Redditor asks whether Rs 28LPA in Bengaluru is better than $60K per year in the US.

$60K per year is obviously more than Rs 28 LPA but salary conversion can be misleading and the dollar option may not be lucrative at all when the expenses of the US are taken into account. An F-1 student explained a confusing situation he is in as he has two job options in front of him: A Rs 28LPA job in Bengaluru, India, and a $60K per year job in the US which he had been doing for the last four months. The Redditor explained that he came to the US for his master’s and got a job only four months ago after struggling for a year. But he got picked for H-1B this year and it is under process. So on one hand, he is lucky enough to get his H-1B but his pay is not very high in the US.The Redditor said he always wanted to go back to India and come back to the US at a later stage. He explained his present status as a STEM OPT and added that he is afraid of getting stuck in the H-1B loop. The post went viral as it reflected two crucial things: the H-1B fear among Indians after several rule changes by the Donald Trump administration, and also the job market in the US as $60K per year in the US is pretty low, social media users opined — though many claimed that it was justified as the location was not Silicon Valley or New York — but Philadelphia. Most of the responses were in favor of Rs 28LPA in Bengaluru as cot of living in Philly is still higher. “60k for philly is poverty level. You need atleast 110 to 150k. I would choose Bangalore and maybe come to the USA sometime later since you have the H1b,” one said.”Go to India. 60k is poverty in US. 28lpa is generous in India,” another advised. “No brainer with the 28LPA India. Unless you’ve a decent trajectory/ confidence, you can get this to be 100k+ in the next year or so in the US,” a third user wrote. But some Redditors asked the student to give some more time to the US as the Rs 28LPA job offer from India will come again.
