Another Indian-origin truck driver in the US, Sukhjinder Singh, has been taken into ICE custody for possible deportation, months after he caused a fatal crash and then pleaded guilty to the vehicular manslaughter that took place earlier this year in West Virginia. Singh was sentenced to the maximum of one year in jail after he pleaded guilty in October. According to the latest report, Singh is now in ICE custody in the North Central Regional Jail. The crash took place in January when Kevin Lataille, a Pennsylvania man, was reported missing while driving home from work in West Virginia. Lataille’s body was found submerged in Cheat Lake after an extensive search along with his car, week after he went missing.A wrong person by the same name Sukhjinder Singh was arrested initially but then the real suspect was arrested and he told the cops that he lost control of his vehicle due to severe snowstorm conditions. The surveillance footage of the incident showed a large vehicle sliding on the bridge, throwing snow into the air, followed by a passenger vehicle falling from the bridge into the lake. The detectives concluded that Singh’s tractor was traveling at an unsafe speed on the snow-covered road and some witnesses, they said, called his driving “reckless and even criminal”. Investigators also confirmed that Singh’s tractor struck another vehicle before reaching the bridge and failing to stop.”Lataille’s vehicle was examined further. Signs of collision and damage, specifically at the driver’s side rear, were consistent with a vehicle matching Singh’s. This impact ultimately sent the vehicle off the bridge and into Cheat Lake,” CBS News reported earlier. The involvement of another Indian-origin truck driver in a fatal accident that sent a car down to a lake came at a time Punjabi truck drivers in the US are on the radar for getting commercial driver license without passing the required exams.
