Pam Bondi’s portrait found in trash can a day after Trump axed her as attorney general

Pam Bondi’s portrait found in trash can a day after Trump axed her as attorney general: Report

A day after US President Donald Trump removed Attorney General Pam Bondi from office, a photograph showing her official portrait lying in a dustbin inside the Department of Justice (DOJ) has gone viral. The image was first reported by MS NOW and shows Bondi’s framed portrait placed upside down in an empty trash can. The portrait had previously been displayed on a wall alongside images of Trump and US vice president JD Vance. The development came hours after Trump announced Bondi’s removal in a social media post, naming Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as her replacement. Bondi is a longtime ally of Trump and has been serving as the country’s top law enforcement official since early 2025. In his statement, Trump praised Bondi and said she would be “transitioning” to a role in the private sector. He added that her new position would be announced later. Blanche also defended her record, saying: “As President Trump said today, the attorney general made our country safe again, and she is a friend and did a great job in the first year of this administration.”Bondi said she would be “working tirelessly” to transfer her responsibilities and described her tenure as “the honour” of a lifetime. She added that she would “continue fighting for President Trump and this administration” in her next role.Despite public praise, the Guardian reported that Trump was frustrated with Bondi’s handling of issues linked to the case of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Bondi had earlier promised transparency of the infamous documents and said an alleged client list linked to Epstein would be released. The DOJ later stated that no such list existed.Millions of documents related to Epstein were eventually made public following pressure from lawmakers and Trump supporters, and after Congress passed legislation requiring the release of unclassified records. However, a lot of the content was redacted. Bondi faced criticism from both Democrats and Republicans. Bondi also faced scrutiny over her leadership during a tense congressional hearing, where exchanges with lawmakers turned heated. At one point, she called a Democrat a “washed-up loser”.Her departure follows the recent removal of Kristi Noem from the position of Homeland Security Secretary and adds to a series of high-profile exits from Trump’s administration.
