'North Korea fires ballistic missile': Seoul's military says 'unidentified' missile flew east; first launch in months

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile, Seoul’s military said on Wednesday, marking its first such launch in months. The “unidentified” missile flew east, AFP reported citing South Korea’s joint chiefs of staff.North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently showcased a new long-range missile during a grand military parade in Pyongyang, attended by top Chinese, Russian, and other international officials. The display, marking the 80th anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party, highlights Kim’s growing diplomatic stature and his continued push to expand North Korea’s nuclear capabilities. His prominence has been further reinforced by appearances alongside Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin at a Beijing military parade, while both Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung have signaled interest in meeting him despite his provocative nuclear agenda. The missile launch comes just days ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference in South Korea, where US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other global leaders are scheduled to meet in Gyeongju for high-level talks.
