A new online platform for reporting anti-Hindu hate incidents has been launched in the UK following concerns over a rise in religion-based offences and underreporting within Hindu communities. The reporting system, called the Anti-Hindu Hate Monitor, has been introduced by the International Centre for Sustainability to document both online and in-person incidents targeting Hindus across the country. The platform allows people to submit reports through an online form and was created after researchers found there was no formal nationwide system dedicated to recording anti-Hindu hate incidents in Britain. The launch comes amid a wider increase in faith-related hate crimes in London. Figures from the Metropolitan Police show that 1,023 faith-based hate crimes were recorded between January and April this year, compared with 839 during the same period last year, BBC reported.Ornicha Daorueng, who helped develop the monitoring system, told the BBC, the absence of reliable reporting data had made it difficult to properly understand the scale of anti-Hindu hate in the UK. “This platform has been developed to help address that gap by creating a dedicated reporting route, improving the quality and consistency of data collection, and building a better understanding of anti-Hindu hate in the UK,” she said.“Without reliable data, effective policy is difficult to develop.”The system was designed with support from the Community Security Trust, which runs a similar reporting network for antisemitic incidents.Researchers involved in the project said Hindus in Britain continue to face hostility that is often poorly recorded or overlooked in wider policy discussions despite being one of the country’s largest religious communities.
