Nepali woman who disappeared in Virginia in 2024: New forensic evidence found in Mamta Kafle Bhatt case

New forensic evidence found in the case of Mamta Kafle Bhatt, who disappeared in 2024 in Virginia.

A nurse and a mother, Mamta Kafle Bhatt of Virginia, disappeared into thin air in 2024 and while her husband Naresh Bhatt was accused of killing her and then concealing her body, the body was never found. Two years later, the investigation has now taken a new turn as new forensic evidence has been found by investigators. According to a newly filed court document, investigators examined: three human hairs, 13 human hair fragments, apparent fibers, apparent debris. These were recovered from a saw.Investigators visually examined the evidence and used stereo microscopy before conducting additional forensic analysis. Court records state the three human hairs “may be suitable for nuclear DNA testing” and have been referred to the Forensic Biology Section for further testing. The 13 hair fragments were deemed unsuitable for nuclear DNA testing.

Who was Mamta Kafle Bhatt? What happened to her?

Nepali-origin Kafle Bhatt came to the US in 2021. She was last seen on July 27, 2024 at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas. She worked there as a registered nurse in the medical surgical unit. She spoke to a friend on July 28 and posted a video on TikTok with her infant daughter. She used to work at the center twice a week and was expected to work on August 1 and 2. Her colleagues reported to the police when she did not come to work. Police visited the house and spoke to her husband Naresh Bhatt who told the police that he did not want to report his wife as missing at that time. Three days later, he reported her missing and said he last saw his wife at the dinner table on July 31.Naresh Bhatt was a former Fairfax County police recruit and former US Army Reserve automated logistics specialist.Naresh appeared on several interviews at that time, urging his wife to return to him and the baby. He also said Mamta had gone missing three times before but never for such a long time. After a few days, cops arrested Naresh and the infant was reunited with the maternal grandparents who are from Nepal. Bhatt was indicted in December 2024 on charges of first-degree murdr and defiling a dead body.
