MAGA melts down thinking 'Rehmet is Indian' after Democrat flips Texas local election

In a stunning victory, Democrat candidate Taylor Rehmet won the special election at a historically Republican seat in Texas, defeating Republican contender Leigh Wambsganss, sending MAGA online handles into an unprecedented meltdown. So much so that a verified handle on X with 43.1k followers, claiming to be ‘heritage American’ though Rehmet is the name of an Indian. It fit the MAGA narrative that Texas is being taken over by Indians but Taylor Rehmet is White, a US Air Force veteran. “No way, you’re telling me Indian colonized suburbs of Dallas voted for REHMET??? You’re telling me this just now? I can’t believe Indians would vote for the pro rape, pro crime, pro fraud party that ran an Indian,” the MAGA account wrote in his viral meltdown. “This post is an incredible snapshot of how devastating racist right wing brain worms are: he saw the name “Rehmet” and assumed that it was an Indian name, but it’s actually of German origin and belongs to a white guy named Taylor Rehmet who just won a race in Texas in a largely white district. It’s so funny because these people think that racism unlocks forbidden knowledge that nobody but them has the courage to embrace. In reality, they are just exceptionally hateful and stupid people,” one wrote in reply. Influencer Elijah Schaffer did not make the mistake of thinking Rehmet Indian but he blamed Indians for the Republican defeat as he said: “Indians just colonized & voted a pro rape and pro gang candidate to run the most powerful county in Texas.”According to census data, the county is 43.1% White and only 7.5% Asian with Indian Americans barely 1,4% of the county’s population.President Donald Trump endorsed Leigh Wambsganss, but after her defeat, Trump distanced himself from the local election and said: “I’m not involved in that. That’s a local Texas race”.Though this was a special election and a local election, the flipping came as a blow to the party as Rehmet won more that 57 per cent of the vote in a district that in 2024 voted for Trump by 17 percentage points. Legistlatively, the victory is not significant as Rehmet will only serve out the remaining eleven months of the term of Republican Kelly Hancock who resigned from the post after he was appointed acting Texas comptroller but the message it sends is nothing less than a political earthquake.
