Justin Trudeau appears in Davos with Katy Perry; speaks on Trump, Canada, Greenland

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made his formal appearance with Katy Perry in Davos, where he was scheduled to speak on the sidelines of the summit. In his speech, as reported by the Toronto Star, Trudeau spoke about the current global upheaval that is challenging political leaders and theur publicsm and what he called the “backsliding of democracies, including in one of the world’s strongest democracies”. Trudeau said the era of rules-based order is over and leaders now create new institutions to build resilience, at a time when some nations are using “hard power”, military might and economic dominance to their own advantage.

Trudeau did not criticize Donald Trump and did not offer any comment on Mark Carney. But Trudeau said Trump’s talk of acquiring Greenland is a “really important moment for NATO and for countries around the world to reflect on” what principles they will defend and push back on and “what we’re prepared to negotiate.”

People know Canada is not here to take oil or sell Cola

Trudeau said Canada is helping to lead and work with like-minded nations at this time as it has traditionally done. When Canada goes into conflict zones, Trudeau said, people actually believe “we’re there to help, we’re not there to take the oil, to sell Coca-Cola, impose our system of government or pick the winners and losers in a local election.”Ahead of his speech, Trudeau spoke to Canadian reporters and said he had not accepted any formal employment position. He is still enjoying his post-political life, spending a lot of time with his kids anddelivering speeches around the world. He said he is interested in work “around storytelling and technology”.Donald Trump’s extreme interest in getting Greenland is something that Canada already saw when Trump called Trudeau, the then PM, the governor of US’s 51st state, Canada. Trump Monday posted an AI photo showing Canada, Greenland and Venezuela as part of US territory.
