Nirmal Singh, a 42-year-old Indian-origin man in Canada, has been arrested and charged after his truck struck a police cruiser and one crime led the cops to another as they found that the truck was also a stolen one and Singh already had his license suspended across Canada. The incident took place December 22, the Peel Police said, when officers located Singh’s truck and asked it to stop. A day before, a semi-trailer truck was reported stolen from a repair shop in the area of East Drive and Torbram Road, in the city of Brampton. Police suspected that Singh was driving the stolen truck. Singh failed to stop the truck and struck a police cruiser, causing extensive damage. There were no injuries. The stolen truck continued until it became inoperabl,e and then Singh attempted to flee on foot. There was a foot chase, following which Singh was arrested. Attached to his stolen truck was a trailer that was also stolen from Halton Region during the weekend of December 20. Nirmal Singh was charged with

  • Possession of property obtained by crime X5
  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of automobile master key X3

After police found that Singh was a Canada-wide suspended driver, he was additionally charged with eight counts of operating while prohibited. Singh was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. The incident took place as Indian-origin truck drivers are on the radar in both US and Canada as several fatal road accidents in both US and Canada involved Indian-origin truck drivers. An intense crackdown has begun to penalize the cartels giving driving licenses to illegal migrants.
