'I like him': Who is Louis Prevost? Why does Trump love Pope’s brother?

US President Donald Trump hosted Pope Leo’s brother, Louis Prevost, at a private party last night at his Mar-a-Lago residence. At the party, Trump praised Prevost, who once called former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi the C-word, and referred to a picture he said showed him standing in front of a house with “MAGA” written over it.“We have a man here, a special man, he is the brother of the pope,” the president can be heard telling guests in footage of the Sunday event leaked on social media. “You know why I like him?” Trump asked, before claiming that “when the Pope was selected, they showed a picture of his brother standing in front of a house with ‘MAGA’ all over it.”“So I said, ‘I love this guy!’” Trump added. It was not clear what picture Trump was referring to, but Prevost, 74, described himself as a “MAGA type” when the family was thrust into the spotlight earlier this year. Many Democrats celebrated the election of Pope Leo XIV, who is known to disagree with Trump on issues such as migrant rights and previously questioned Vice President JD Vance’s hard-right interpretation of Catholic doctrine.Prevost, however, made little secret of his support for the Republican president, posting countless pro-Trump memes and messages to his Facebook account that were first revealed by the Daily Beast, including a repost referring to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as the C-word. “These f—king liberals crying about tariffs is just unreal,” the caption to that clip read. “Do they not know that there is a thing called video? Just listen to what this drunk c–t has to say in the mid-90’s long before her husband had grindr dates.”Prevost and his wife, Deborah, were also photographed in the Oval Office back in May, smiling alongside Trump and Vance, a Catholic convert who famously got a lecture on compassion at the behest of Pope Francis shortly before his death last April.Prevost also called for elected Democratic representatives who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over Russia’s ongoing invasion to be arrested for treason and suggested letting other nominal allies in Europe “go their own way into complete socialism and ultimately communism.”
