American comedian Walter Masterson has urged the Indian community to reconsider their support for the MAGA movement, reacting to a viral video of Indians celebrating festivals in Texas.Masterson posted on X: “Have you ever celebrated Holi, Diwali, or been invited to an Indian wedding? It’s amazing. I really wish people in the Indian community stopped supporting MAGA, they wholeheartedly do not want you here.”The post came after an X user shared a video showing Indians dressed in traditional attire during festivities in Texas. The user had responded to Texas governor Greg Abbott’s remarks, writing: “Congratulations r***d. This is what half of Texas looks like now.” Abbott had earlier said he signed laws prohibiting sister-city agreements with countries he called “foreign adversaries” including China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia, and preventing certain groups from buying land in Texas, specifically mentioning CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood. The incident comes amid other racist attacks targeting Indian-origin politicians in the country. MAGA influencer Elijah Schaffer faced backlash for mocking Abraham George, the Indian-origin chairman of the Texas Republican Party, for his accent and claiming that Texas was “turning into Mumbai” and accusing the party of facilitating H1B immigration fraud for years.“The Texas GOP is led by an Indian with an Indian accent. Now you know why Texas is turning into Mumbai and the centre of H1B immigration fraud. Our own party is orchestrating it, it’s not just the Democrats. Indians are loyal to their race and non-Indian politicians are paid off,” Schaffer had said.George is a Christian and was elected Texas GOP chairman in 2024. He has previously faced online abuse after defending gun rights and constitutional freedoms in a video shared by the Texas GOP. “God gave you life. God gave you liberty, and God gives the duty to protect both… That’s not a policy, that is Texas DNA,” he said, rejecting red flag laws, magazine bans, and waiting periods.
