KHDA confirms extension of Distance learning until 3 April/Representative Image

Dubai’s education authorities have decided to continue remote learning across all private institutions, extending the arrangement until early April as a precautionary measure. The move places student safety at the centre, while allowing limited flexibility for institutions that can justify a return to classrooms. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed that distance learning will remain in place for all private educational institutions in the Emirate of Dubai until Friday, April 3, 2026. The decision aligns with a broader announcement made by the Education, Human Development and Community Council, reinforcing a coordinated approach across the sector.

In a statement shared on X, KHDA said that all private institutions must continue with remote learning during this period. The authority emphasised that the measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of students while maintaining continuity in education delivery across schools, colleges, and other private learning institutions. At the same time, KHDA has left room for institutions that may be in a position to resume on-site learning. Any institution seeking to return to physical classrooms must submit a formal request to the authority. This request must clearly outline the specific circumstances behind the proposal and provide a detailed justification for reopening. Each application will be assessed individually rather than through a blanket approval process. KHDA stated that all such requests will be reviewed by the Ministry of Education, which will evaluate them in line with approved regulations and procedures already in place. The authority made it clear that the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and the wider community will be the primary consideration in any decision taken by the Ministry. This means that even well-prepared institutions will only be allowed to reopen if they meet the required safety standards and can demonstrate minimal risk. The extension of distance learning, combined with a controlled approval process for any exceptions, reflects a cautious approach by Dubai’s education authorities as they balance continuity in learning with public health priorities.
