A football fan will be paid $50,000 to watch every match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after FOX Sports announced a nationwide search for what it is calling the “FOX One Chief World Cup Watcher Hired Through Indeed”. The temporary role, created in partnership with FOX One and Indeed, will require the successful applicant to watch all 104 matches of the expanded tournament during next summer’s World Cup in North America. The fan selected for the role will watch matches live in 4K through FOX One from a custom-built glass viewing space in Times Square in New York City, with the tournament itself set to begin just over a month from now. The job also includes creating social media content throughout the competition, with FOX expecting the successful applicant to share reactions, commentary and watch-party style content while following every match across the tournament schedule.

Applications open until May 17

The role arrives at a time when supporters are already preparing travel plans for the World Cup, although several fan groups have raised concerns in recent months over ticket pricing, particularly on resale platforms where costs have increased significantly for high-demand matches. FOX Sports president of marketing Robert Gottlieb described the position as part of the broadcaster’s wider plans for the tournament. “This FIFA World Cup will be a historic tournament that calls for an equally historic hire,” Gottlieb said in a press release. “One engaged applicant will get the job of a lifetime to experience and celebrate every story, every nation and every exhilarating moment that defines the beautiful game.” Applicants have been instructed to either update or create an Indeed profile before May 17, including any relevant experience or skills that could support their application for the role. FOX and Indeed have also encouraged fans to upload a short video to social media explaining why they should be selected, using the hashtag #ChiefWorldCupWatcher.

Job begins before the tournament starts

The person hired for the role will officially begin on June 6, one week before the World Cup starts, and FOX plans to reveal the successful applicant publicly during its broadcast of the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox. The role itself will continue until July 26, one week after the World Cup final. FOX confirmed the viewing setup would function as a personalised office and viewing area placed directly in Times Square, allowing the successful fan to watch every game while interacting with supporters online throughout the tournament.
