Canada shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar played ‘mall shooting’ game before killing multiple, claims viral Reddit post

Investigators and online researchers have raised questions about a Roblox account linked to the Canadian school shooter, Jesse Van Rootselaar, after a game appearing to simulate a mall shooting scenario was found following the mass killing in British Columbia. The discovery came a day after at least nine people died in a devastating attack in Tumbler Ridge on Wednesday. Police say Van Rootselaar first shot and killed her mother and 11‑year‑old stepbrother at a home before entering Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and opening fire on students and staff.Reddit users reported (Internet forum Kiwi Farms) finding a now‑deleted Roblox account with the username jesseboy347 that appeared linked to Van Rootselaar’s other online profiles. They said one of the games created under that account, titled ‘Remember,’ featured an experience created on a mall massacre in which players could fire into a crowd of civilians using multiple weapons like rifles, AR’s, rocket launchers, SMG’s, machine guns and snipers.

What is Roblox?

Roblox is a user‑generated content platform with millions of daily players worldwide. It allows users to design and share their own interactive experiences, including games. Forum users said the mall shooting game put weapons and characters in a shopping centre, and seemed like a basic attempt to copy real-life violence and mass shootings. There is no official confirmation from Canadian authorities or Roblox that the account belonged to Van Rootselaar or that the game influenced her actions in killing so many people.Police have said Van Rootselaar acted alone and that the motive remains unclear. She was found dead from a self‑inflicted wound at the school after the attack was carried out. The shooter was also born male and transitioned into a female 6 years ago, according to USA Today.Violence in shooting-based video games in common but there are rare cases in which such gameply promotes teenagers to engage in real-life attacks.
