AOC says she would ‘stomp’ JD Vance in 2028 presidential race as poll shows her narrowly ahead

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she would “stomp” Vice President JD Vance in a hypothetical 2028 presidential race after a newly released poll showed her holding a narrow lead over Vance. The remark was made during a brief, unscripted exchange with a reporter outside the US Capitol, where she was asked about early head-to-head polling, and the clip was later circulated widely on social media. The remark followed the release of a Verasight poll conducted in mid-December 2025 among roughly 1,500 likely voters. The survey showed Ocasio-Cortez leading Vance by 51 per cent to 49 per cent. With a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points, the result places the contest within statistical tie territory and reflects a closely divided electorate in an early and hypothetical matchup. When asked about the poll, Ocasio-Cortez cautioned against reading too much into early surveys conducted years before an election. She said such polls offer only a limited snapshot of public opinion at a given moment. She then added, “But let the record show, I would stomp him,” a remark that quickly became the focus of online discussion. Earlier the same day, Ocasio-Cortez reposted the poll results on X with the caption “Bloop!”, drawing additional attention to the survey. The post contributed to the rapid spread of the video clip and renewed discussion about possible 2028 presidential contenders, despite neither Ocasio-Cortez nor Vance having announced any intention to run.The poll’s release also prompted scrutiny of its methodology, with some commentators questioning the reliability of early head-to-head matchups and the challenges of measuring voter preferences so far ahead of an election. Others pointed to the narrow margin as evidence that the result should be interpreted cautiously.
