Mohammed Mishal, a young photography enthusiast from Kozhikode, Kerala, lost his life after falling from the terrace of a building in Deira, Dubai, on Friday, November 7. The accident occurred while he was attempting to capture close-up shots of airplanes, highlighting the risks associated with accessing unsecured rooftops. Mishal’s untimely death comes just months after another Indian teenager died in a similar fall in the UAE.

Passion for photography and the accident

Mishal had been in Dubai for approximately two weeks on a visit visa, staying with his cousins in Hor Al Anz. Known for his love of photography, he went to the building’s third-floor terrace to take pictures of flights from the nearby airport. According to eyewitness accounts and family friends, Mishal’s leg became trapped between two pipes, causing him to lose balance and fall.He sustained severe internal injuries and was immediately rushed to Rashid Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Family background and personal life

Mishal was the only son of Muneer and Ayesha and had two younger sisters. He was pursuing a diploma in civil engineering in Kozhikode and was described by relatives as ambitious and entrepreneurial. Reports suggest that he was already discussing potential business ventures during his visit to Dubai. His father runs a restaurant in Kozhikode.Family friends and social workers involved in the case described Mishal as a talented and driven young man, whose life was cut tragically short.

Repatriation and community warnings

Formalities for repatriating Mishal’s body to Kozhikode are reportedly near completion, with the body expected to be flown back for final rites on Wednesday morning. Authorities in Dubai have reiterated warnings to residents and visitors to avoid accessing rooftops or unsecured terraces due to safety hazards. This incident is the second fatal fall involving an Indian teenager in the UAE this year. In April, 17-year-old Alex Binoy, a student at Abu Dhabi Indian School, died after falling from his apartment balcony while awaiting Grade 12 examination results.
