Watch: PM Modi takes a metro ride after flagging off Namo Bharat Rapid Rail corridor; interacts with students

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took a metro ride from Shatabdi Nagar to Meerut South Station. During the journey, he interacted with students, commuters and officials till Meerut.The ride followed the flagging off of the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train at the Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister also flagged off the remaining sections of the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The launch marks a major boost to regional connectivity between Delhi and Meerut.Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP President and Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary, along with senior officials, were present on the occasion and accompanied the Prime Minister.Along with the transport projects, the Prime Minister is also set to inaugurate several development works worth around Rs 12,930 crore in Meerut. These projects span multiple sectors and are aimed at boosting infrastructure and improving public services in the region.PM Modi is also scheduled to address a public gathering in Meerut later in the day, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. The launch of the Meerut Metro and the expanded Namo Bharat services is seen as a significant step towards strengthening urban mobility and regional connectivity in western Uttar Pradesh.The 82-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor includes a 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and a 21-km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.The trains are designed to run at speeds of up to 180 kmph, making them among the fastest in the country. The corridor aims to provide faster and smoother travel between Delhi and key urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut.
