Supreme Court to hear contempt plea against Telangana speaker

.

NEW DELHI: Alleging that the speaker of Telangana legislative assembly failed to comply with its order to decide within three months the disqualification petitions against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs who defected to Congress, a contempt petition has been filed in the Supreme Court which it agreed to hear November 17. Supreme Court had on July 31 set a deadline of three months for the Telangana speaker to decide disqualification plea against the MLAs. Mentioning the petition for an urgent listing before Chief Justice B R Gavai, the petitioner alleged that the speaker had failed to comply with the SC order and he had not even touched the matter in case of two MLAs which is contemptuous. A bench of Chief Justice and Justice A G Masih had passed the judgment on a batch of writ petitions filed by BRS functionaries K T Rama Rao, Padi Kaushik Reddy and K O Vivekanand in relation to the defection of ten BRS MLAs in Telangana to Congress. The apex court had directed the speaker of Telangana assembly to decide the petitions seeking their disqualification under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution within a period of three months from July 31.
