'Sincere appreciation': Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba thanks PM Modi for Eid greetings

In his message to Prime Minister Modi, Khamenei conveyed his appreciation for the greetings and underlined the longstanding ties between the two countries.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his Eid al-Adha greetings and expressed confidence that relations between India and Iran will continue to deepen, according to Iranian sources quoted by news agency ANI.In his message to Prime Minister Modi, Khamenei conveyed his appreciation for the greetings and underlined the longstanding ties between the two countries. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I have received Your Excellency’s message of congratulations on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha. While expressing my sincere appreciation and extending my reciprocal congratulations, I am confident that the historic friendship between our two countries, founded on mutual respect and shared interests, will continue to be further strengthened and expanded through the efforts of our two governments. I pray to Almighty God for the prosperity and continued success of the Government and the great people of India.”The message comes as India prepares to send an official delegation to the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. According to Iranian sources cited by ANI, Bihar Governor Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will represent the Indian government at the ceremonies. Iran had also invited Prime Minister Modi to attend the state funeral and burial ceremonies. The week-long observances are scheduled from July 4 to July 9 across several Iranian cities and are expected to draw millions of mourners along with foreign dignitaries.Iranian authorities said Khamenei’s body will lie in state at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla complex on July 4 and 5, allowing members of the public to pay their respects. A state funeral procession will take place on July 6, with public holidays declared across Tehran province during the official mourning period.
