NEW DELHI: The ruling Trinamool Congress has fielded Bayron Biswas from the Sagardighi assembly seat, where he will face BJP’s Tapas Chakraborty.Sagardighi is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Jangipur Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has consistently returned representation from the same party in recent elections, though with varying margins.In the 2021 Assembly elections, Sagardighi had 236,885 registered electors, of whom 186,816 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Subrata Saha, who secured 95,189 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mafuja Khatun finished second with 44,983 votes, trailing by a margin of 50,206 votes.

In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 206,049, with 170,865 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 82.99 per cent. TMC candidate Subrata Saha also won the seat, securing 44,817 votes. Indian National Congress candidate Aminul Islam came second with 39,603 votes, losing by a margin of 5,214 votes.
