CJP protest: Delhi Police refutes claim that woman protester sustained gunshot injury

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday rejected claims that a woman protester sustained a gunshot injury during the Cockroach Janata Party’s July 20 march, saying her medico-legal certificate (MLC) showed only a simple blunt-force injury. In a post on X, Delhi Police said claims circulating on social media were not supported by the protester’s medical records.According to the police, the MLC prepared at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital recorded a lacerated wound in front of the right tragus, with the nature of injury described as blunt.”As per the doctor’s opinion, it is a simple injury and there is no evidence of gunshot injury. Therefore, the claim of gunshot injury is not supported by the medical findings on the MLC,” the police said. “The public is advised to verify information through authentic sources before sharing such claims,” it added.Police said the woman was examined at RML Hospital on July 20, where doctors prepared the MLC. The official medical document, they said, made no mention of a gunshot injury and instead recorded a blunt-force injury.

“An MLC is a medico-legal certificate prepared by doctors and provided to the police, forming the basis for further legal action in a criminal case,” a senior police officer said. Police sources told PTI that after leaving RML Hospital, the woman visited a private hospital in Gurugram, where another medical document was prepared.Describing the allegations as baseless, Delhi Police said the original MLC prepared at RML Hospital clearly recorded a simple blunt injury near the right ear and did not indicate any gunshot wound.
