Rs 8,189 crore saved from cyber criminals between 2021 and 2025: Centre in Rajya Sabha

NEW DELHI: More than Rs 8,189 crore was saved between 2021 and 2025 due to action initiated in 23.6 lakh complaints received by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), the home ministry told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.The ‘Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System’ (CFCFRMS), under I4C, was launched in 2021 for immediate reporting of financial frauds and to stop siphoning off funds by the fraudsters. A toll-free helpline number ‘1930’ was been operationalised to help citizens lodge online cyber complaints.In written reply to a question, junior home minister Bandi Sanjay Kunar shared that till 31.12.2025, more than 12.2 lakh SIM cards and 3 lakh IMEIs, as reported by police authorities, were blocked by Government of India.A suspect registry of identifiers of cyber criminals has was also launched by I4C on 10.09.2024 in collaboration with banks and financial institutions. Kunar informed RS that till 31.12.2025, more than 21. lakh suspect identifier data received from banks and 26.5 lakh ‘layer 1’ mule accounts had been shared with the participating entities of the registry and transactions worth over Rs 9055 crore, declined.He further said the ‘samanvaya’ platform — which serves as a management information system, data repository and a coordination platform for law enforcement agencies (LEAs) for cybercrime — and the module ‘pratibimb’, which maps the location of cyber criminals and their infrastructure — have together led to the arrest of 20,853 accused and 1,35,074 cyber investigation assistance requests. The Central govt has also undertaken a new initiative to register e-FIRs in cyber fraud cases. An ‘e-FIR’ system for filing FIRs in cybercrime cases has been implemented in Delhi, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and Goa, the minister stated.
