Prasoon Joshi reflects on intersection of artificial intelligence, creativity and human imagination at DNPA Conclave 2026At the DNPA Conclave 2026, CBFC Chairman and acclaimed lyricist Prasoon Joshi offered a thought-provoking perspective on artificial intelligence and its evolving relationship with creativity. Joshi emphasised that while AI can do a lot of things, what it does is build on previously available knowledge and data.

‘AI Only Works With What Has Been Expressed So Far’: Prasoon Joshi Gets Candid At DNPA 2026

“AI is trained on human data. AI shouldn’t be called artificial – what it does is take experiential data and convert into something. So it’s not artificial. It’s somebody’s first-hand data,” he said, stressing that the technology draws from existing human expression rather than operating independently of it.Joshi also discussed the impact of AI on the creative process and the related outcome. “Artificial Intelligence has everything which has been said, but what about things which have not been said,” he said, highlighting the limitations of systems that rely solely on past data. For Joshi, true creativity lies in venturing into the unexplored – an area where human imagination continues to have an advantage.Cautioning against complacency, he said, “Let’s not take AI lightly. It’s not just technology. It’s definitely redefining the way we consume a lot of things.” He said that while AI can replicate patterns and optimize processes, human excellence often comes from breaking pre-existing moulds. “Every time a human does something exceptional, he breaks a mould. AI creates within the mould,” he added.Joshi also addressed the ethical dilemma that rapid technological advancement poses. “AI will do what AI has to do, hyperpersonalization, moment marketing, lot of things. But where do we draw the line – that will be determined by our value system, education, ethical framework. That’s where we need to invest in.” He emphasized that society must focus not only on advancing technology but also on strengthening the moral and educational foundations that guide its use.Joshi underlined that while AI is reshaping industries and creative processes, the responsibility of defining its boundaries and preserving originality ultimately rests with human values and vision.
