‘India’s Steadfast Support’: Modi Reaffirms Support to Nepal’s New Interim PM Sushila Karki

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi’s conversation with Sushila Karki on Thursday was her first with any foreign head of govt, since she became Nepal’s first woman PM Friday. Karki said that elections will remain the topmost priority of the interim govt, with a focus on accountable, responsive and corruption-free governance, reflecting the aspirations of the youth.Modi assured India’s full support and cooperation as per the priorities of Govt of Nepal, said Nepal’s foreign ministry. Modi had earlier too appealed for peace, saying stability, peace and prosperity of Nepal is of utmost significance to India.The 73-year-old former chief justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court took over the reins of the interim govt, ending days of political uncertainty after the ouster of Oli caused an agitation against a ban on social media that later turned into wider anti-corruption demonstrations. Karki emphasised that the historical and close relationship between Nepal and India will continue to be strengthened by multifaceted people-to-people ties.
