An 18-year-old NEET aspirant was found unconscious in her hostel room in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar. She was staying in a private girls’ hostel room for her preparations for the medical entrance examination. After battling for life in a coma for several days, the student died on January 11.The NEET aspirant’s family has alleged sexual assault and has accused the authorities of attempting a cover-up.The owner of the girls’ hostel was arrested after a massive protest in Patna, sparked by the death. The post-mortem examination report stated that “sexual violence cannot be ruled out”. Earlier findings indicated that the student had consumed a large quantity of sleeping pills and was suffering from typhoid. The police has however, maintained that the medical reports and CCTV footage found no signs of sexual assault.”Doctors found no signs of sexual assault and stated that the girl had consumed a large quantity of sleeping pills and was suffering from typhoid,” Patna police had said in a statement on January 13.Meanwhile, family members of the deceased on Sunday demanded action against the hostel warden, doctors and police personnel, alleging a cover-up.The aspirant’s father, speaking to the reporters, said, “The hostel warden, doctors and certain policemen are hand-in-glove. Action must be taken against them. The hostel authorities offered us money for a compromise, and police personnel threatened us not to speak to the media.”
