NEW DELHI: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the permanent building for the Calcutta high court’s circuit bench in Jalpaiguri. She also urged CJI Surya Kant to protect the people of the country who are “wrongly targeted by the agencies,” news agency PTI reported.Remarking the justice Kant’s position as the ‘guardian of the Constitution’ who was also present at the event, she said that must protect the people of India as they are under his legal guardianship. “My request to Chief Justice and all the judges is that please see, our Constitution must be protected from disaster, our democracy must be protected from disaster and our safety, security, history, geography and boundary – all should be protected.,” she said during her address.She added, “Please protect the people…Save democracy, save people, save democracy, save country, save constitution. We are under your custody. You are the guardians of the Constitution. Nobody is super to you, the judiciary.”The much awaited inauguration of the permanent building of the circuit bench of Jalapiguri was attended by the Chief Justice of India, the chief justice of the Calcutta high court, senior judges, and state officials, including Siliguri mayor Gautam Deb. The Bengal CM further promised more fast track court projects being underway as she said, “We are continuing 88 fast track courts. Out of that 52 are for women and 7 POCSO courts.” The bench will be provide easier access to the people of the North Bengal region including the people of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar districts.The long-pending project constructed by the state government on a 40-acre plot.
