Labour codes to enhance ease of living and doing business: Survey

NEW DELHI: Nearly two-thirds of workers believe that working conditions will improve with enhanced rest periods and leave practices, and foresee improvement in income security due to wage transparency, once the four new labour codes are fully implemented. A similar share of employers believe that the new codes will enhance ease of doing business due to streamlining and simplification of the compliance systems. These are some of the findings from a ‘perception survey’ released by the VV Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI) Monday. The survey was conducted in the wake of the official notification of the four labour codes on Nov 21. About 66% of workers believe that safety, transport, and monitoring requirements will improve protection for women workers, while 63% feel that mandatory safety equipment and protective measures will strengthen workplace conditions. On social security, 68% workers welcome e-Shram and welfare boards for easier access, and 63% see greater portability for contract, migrant, and gig workers.
