Govt wants Parliament sittings on March 28, 29

/

NEW DELHI: Govt has suggested holding Parliament sittings on March 28 and 29, the month’s last weekend, to make up for some holidays on weekdays during the ongoing budget session, which has also been marred by disruption over a host of issues. Sources said a proposal to this effect was made at the Lok Sabha’s business advisory committee, which includes functionaries of different parties, and a final decision is yet to be taken. While official sources have ascribed the reason to ensuring ample time for the govt’s legislative agenda, the development comes amid buzz that the governing alliance is looking to amend the women’s reservation law for its expeditious roll out by delinking it from delimitation.

Ahead of the second part of the session from March 9, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju had said govt will bring a “critical” bill. It has since emerged that he has reached out to different opposition parties over the implementation of women’s reservation law.
