NEW DELHI: From the Govindganj assembly constituency, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate Raju Tiwari is leading in the early trends, securing 4,512 votes so far and holding a margin of 2,062 votes. Congress candidate Shashi Bhushan Rai alias Gappu Rai trails behind with 2,450 votes, while Jan Suraaj’s Krishna Kant Mishra stands third with 396 votes.Govindganj, one of Bihar’s 243 Assembly constituencies, falls under the Purvi Champaran district and is a general category seat. In the 2020 Assembly elections, BJP’s Sunil Mani Tiwari emerged victorious with 65,716 votes (43.14 percent), defeating Congress’s Brajesh Kumar, who received 37,936 votes (24.90 percent), by a margin of 27,780 votes.

In the 2015 elections, Raju Tiwari of the Lok Janshakti Party won the seat with 74,685 votes (54.54 percent), defeating Congress’s Brajesh Kumar by 27,920 votes. Since its inception, Govindganj has remained a Brahmin-dominated constituency, with all 18 elected MLAs so far belonging to the Brahmin community.According to 2020 records, the constituency had 267,510 registered voters, including 38,788 Muslims (14.50 percent) and 30,550 Scheduled Caste voters (11.40 percent). It remains largely rural, with only 7.02 percent urban voters. Voter turnout has stayed consistent at around 56 percent, reaching 56.99 percent in 2020. The total voter count increased to 280,551 by January 2024.
