Government: Sheikh Hasina extradition plea under review

Sheikh Hasina

NEW DELHI: After Bangladesh foreign minister Khalilur Rahman raised the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s extradition during his visit to India last week, India govt reiterated Friday that the request is being examined as part of the ongoing judicial and internal legal processes. However, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also reiterated India’s position that it will continue to engage constructively on the issue with all stakeholders. Bangladesh has sought the extradition of its former PM, a long time Indian ally, for offences allegedly committed before she came to India on Aug 5, 2024. India has remained noncommittal on the particular issue, maintaining as it said last year that it’s committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh
