Demand for MSP, reforms: Protesting farmers breach police barricades enroute to Bhopal

Farmers march from Narmadapuram to Bhopal (ANI image)

Farmers marching from Narmadapuram to Bhopal demanding 100 per cent procurement of moong at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) breached police barricades on Tuesday as they entered the Madhya Pradesh capital, intensifying their protest against the state government.Visuals from Bhopal showed farmers crossing police barricades while carrying the Tricolour. Police did not use force and eventually opened the route, allowing the farmers to proceed into the city. The protest, organised under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, began on Monday with a sit-in at Sethanighat in Narmadapuram, where farmers recited the Hanuman Chalisa before starting their march towards Bhopal, PTI reported.Earlier, police had attempted to stop the march by erecting barricades at Bhopal Tiraha and other locations. District Magistrate Somesh Mishra and Superintendent of Police Saikrishna S. Thota held talks with the protesting farmers on National Highway-69, but the discussions failed to break the deadlock. The farmers are demanding 100 per cent procurement of moong under MSP, a solution to issues related to the e-token system, and the timely availability of fertilisers at reasonable prices.
